April 25, (THEWILL) – Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has dismissed the notion that Wednesday night’s game against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium will determine the outcome of this season’s English Premier League title race.
Despite leading the league for most of the season, the Gunners have faltered in recent weeks, with three consecutive draws against Liverpool, West Ham, and Southampton allowing City to close the gap.
City have won 25 out of their last 27 games, and with a win over Arsenal, they would trail the Gunners by just two points with two games in hand. However, if Arsenal triumph, the gap would increase to eight points, putting the Gunners back in control. Despite the high stakes, Arteta believes that the outcome of the game will not define the season.
“The belief is there, I look at how the players reacted after Southampton, they defend each other in every moment. We really want it and we are going to show it again tomorrow night. But it has to be perfect because that is what is demanded at this time in the season,” Arteta said.
City manager, Pep Guardiola, echoed Arteta’s sentiments, stating that the game was crucial but not decisive. “We can’t deny how important it is. Arsenal have always had incredible details about keeping the ball; the players they select for the club have big qualities and skills. Mikel has brought them to a different level; they are so competitive and aggressive,” Guardiola said.
