Arteta Confirms Partey Injury After FA Cup Exit, Scans To Determine Severity Be

January 28, (THEWILL) – Arsenal’s excellent 2022/2023 campaign faces uncertainty as they slipped out of the FA Cup on Friday evening, following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City. This defeat has ruled out any hopes of another league and cup double win. Adding to the disappointment, midfielder Thomas Partey was withdrawn in the first half with an apparent injury.

Club manager, Mikel Arteta, confirmed that Partey was suffering and would have an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury while acknowledging the impact of Partey’s absence. He said, “It is true Thomas is a big influence and a big personality and in the second half we didn’t have him.”

If Partey is unavailable for a long spell, it would be a significant blow to the Gunners’ English Premier League title hopes as he has started 16 games in the league this season, of which they have won every single one. He is a vital part of league-leading Arsenal’s team.

The timing of the injury is not ideal for Arsenal as fellow midfielder, Mohamed Elneny, faces a long period on the sidelines following an injury suffered in training. Arteta had already hinted at moving for midfield cover in the January transfer window following Elneny’s injury, and will now be even more motivated to move for reinforcements.

Arsenal’s reported push for Brighton and Hove Albion’s midfielder, Moises Caicedo, fits the bill of a player, who could both provide cover and compete for a starting place if and when the injured players return. However, Brighton is expectedly unwilling to let another key player move to the Emirates.
