Arteta Confirms Nature Of Martinelli’s Injury At Everton Match

September 18, (THEWILL) – Arsenal Manager, Mikel Arteta, has confirmed that forward Gabriel Martinelli suffered a muscle injury during the Gunners’ English Premier League victory over Everton on Sunday.

The Brazilian attacker looked bright in the opening stages at Goodison Park, even putting the ball in the net in the 20th minute before the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review. However, Martinelli soon went down injured and had to be replaced by Leandro Trossard.

Speaking after the game, Arteta said tests would need to be carried out to determine the extent of the injury. “He felt it after the action for the run on the goal, and normally he’s not one of the players to have muscular issues, but he had to come off, so let’s see,” explained the Arsenal boss.

Arteta expressed his relief at Arsenal finally ending their six-year winless run at Goodison Park, saying his side “fully deserved to win the game” and were dominant throughout. He did, however, rue missed chances to further extend their lead. “We had many other openings to put the ball in the last line and to put somebody in the box and finalise,” he said.

The victory moves Arsenal up to fourth place in the table after taking 13 points from their first five EPL matches this season.
