September 26, (THEWILL) – Arsenal’s injury crisis has worsened after Mikel Arteta revealed Bukayo Saka is a major doubt for this weekend’s English Premier League trip to Bournemouth due to a foot injury.

The 22-year-old scored a penalty and saw a shot deflected in during Sunday’s 2-2 draw with North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur but later limped off, joining Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, Thomas Partey, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice on the treatment table.

Arteta admitted Saka is unlikely to be risked against Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, and could now miss the clash with the Cherries, meaning his club-record run of 86 consecutive league appearances is likely to come to an end.

The Gunners boss suggested the relentless fixture schedule was partly to blame for the spate of injuries, with Saka having played over 60 times last season.

Arteta insisted squad rotation is difficult due to limited options but hinted fringe players and youngsters will be given a chance to impress in the cup tie ahead of a hectic run of 13 games in 43 days.
