August 07, (THEWILL) – Arsenal delivered an impressive performance in their penultimate pre-season match, beating Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners dominated the game with goals from Oleksandr Zinchenko, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus, and Kai Havertz.
The home team started strongly, with Zinchenko opening the scoring in the eighth minute from a Havertz assist. Trossard quickly doubled the lead, capitalising on a Leverkusen error. Jesus added a third before half-time with a long-range effort that eluded goalkeeper Matej Kovar.
In the second half, Havertz scored Arsenal’s fourth after a deflected cross from Bukayo Saka. Leverkusen managed a consolation goal through substitute Adam Hlozek, who chipped David Raya to finish off a well-worked move.
The match statistics favoured Arsenal, who recorded six shots on target out of nine attempts. Trossard stood out with seven touches in the opposition box and 19 passes in the final third, second only to former Arsenal player Granit Xhaka and Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.
Arsenal’s next fixture is against Lyon on Sunday, their final pre-season game before the English Premier League campaign begins. The Gunners will start their league season against Wolverhampton Wanderers, aiming to build on last year’s strong performance and challenge for the title.
