August 30, (THEWILL) – Arsenal are negotiating with Chelsea for a loan deal for Raheem Sterling, according to multiple reports. Chelsea have been trying to move the winger after deeming him surplus to requirements, even reassigning his squad number to new signing Pedro Neto.
Earlier this week, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace were linked with Sterling but no firm offers materialised. Rumours of a potential Arsenal move emerged on transfer deadline day morning, and discussions are now progressing with hours left before the window closes.
The Gunners are reportedly seeking a season-long loan for Sterling for 2024/2025. While his high wages remain a hurdle, there is hope a deal can be finalised before the 11pm deadline. Sterling previously worked under Arsenal Manager, Mikel Arteta, when Arteta was an assistant at Manchester City.
Arsenal’s summer transfer activity has focused on strengthening their defence and midfield with signings including Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori and Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino. They also made goalkeeper David Raya’s loan from Brentford permanent.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking to replace Sterling by pursuing a loan deal for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho. Negotiations for Sancho are also expected to continue until the final hours of the transfer window.
