July 09, (THEWILL) – A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Captain Matthew Karimu, has lauded the State Governor, Senator Douye Diri and his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, for their humble and purposeful leadership style, saying the duo is making laudable impacts in the governance of the state.

Capt Karimu, who is also a prominent businessman, gave the commendation at the weekend when he received a delegation of Bayelsa West stakeholders, led by the Deputy Governor, on a visit to his country home, Adagbabiri, in Sagbama Local Government Area of the State.

According to him, the Governor and his Deputy have achieved so much in terms of promoting peace and unity in the state by practising what he described as politics without discrimination.

Commenting on the lifestyle of Senator Ewhrudjakpo, the Adagbabiri-born business mogul and fearless politician said the Deputy Governor had made all the good people of Bayelsa West Senatorial District proud with the competent manner he is handling his office.

Chief Karimu noted that although he was in a different political party, Ewhrudjakpo demonstrated the true leader in him as a unifier at one of his most trying moments in life when his wife, Mrs Oby Karimu, passed on in 2022.

He stressed that Senator Ewhrudjakpo was making commendable efforts at building true unity in the Senatorial District and pledged to always give him every necessary support to enable him to succeed more in office.

He said, “You all know me. Apart from God, I don’t have anything to fear. I say it the way I see it. The Governor and your humble self are making a good impact in this state. Your humility brings everybody together. Events unite people; the outcome of many contests brings people together.

“For this our brother (Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo), he is a man of many credible faces. We are proud of you, the Amatolomowei of Adagbabiri, a chieftaincy title attached with enormous responsibility and he has lived up to our expectations.

“Sagbama and Ekeremor should thank God for a vibrant young man in the person of Senator Ewhrudjakpo. Whatever support we have, let’s give it to the Deputy Governor. For me, that is what I’ve already decided to do and nobody can stop me from doing so.”

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, explained that the visit was intended to show love and unity and build synergy as one people in the Senatorial District irrespective of their political cleavages and interests.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo said the visit was a fulfilment of an earlier promise to visit Captain Matthew Karimu at Adagbabiri as he was physically absent at his wife’s funeral due to pressing state matters at the time.

The Deputy Governor underscored the need to pull down walls built on wrong notions, which impede the unity and progress of the state, pointing out that the projects the Prosperity Administration had done for the Adagbabiri community were a fulfilment of the government’s responsibility to the people.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has admonished young couples to make prayer their mainstay and build their homes on the sound principles of God’s word to be able to weather marital and other storms of life.

Senator Diri gave the charge while speaking as the special guest of honour at the marriage reception of the foster daughter of the Monarch of Opu Nembe, His Royal Majesty, King Biobelemoye Josiah, former Miss Lilian Inabriyai Iyabi and her husband, Mr. Steven Edward, which was held at the Jerry Century Event Centre, in Yenagoa.

Represented by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Governor reminded the new couple that only families, which usually pray together, stay together and encouraged them to take responsibility for their mistakes in the school of marriage in order to enjoy a lasting relationship built on mutual love and trust.

The Deputy Governor pointed out that the husband, being the head of the family, has so many responsibilities to fulfil, which include nurturing, supporting, honouring and providing for his wife.

He said the main duties of the wife among other things were to make efforts to give the husband all the attention and respect he deserves, as well as remain faithful to him at all times.

Speaking as Chairman of the occasion, Barrister Amunaboye Clement clarified that marriage signifies love and stressed the need for the couple to cherish each other in love.

Barrister Amunaboye equally charged the couple to always reflect on the calibre of personalities, who came from far and near to honour and celebrate with them, adding that doing so would give them the psychological strength to triumph whenever they encounter any difficult situation in their marriage.

The well-attended function was graced by the Secretary to the State Government, Alaowei Gideon Ekeuwei; the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Solomon Agwanana; serving and former Assembly Members, Commissioners, the wife of the King of Opu-Nembe, Queen Darling Josiah, and other highly placed personalities.
