May 10, (THEWILL) – Former Super Eagles forward, Daniel Amokachi, has been appointed as Team Nigeria’s Ambassador for the Homeless World Cup.
The renowned ex-Nigerian International and Olympic Gold winner from Atlanta 96, assumed the role as disclosed by Yomi Kuku, the Team Director, in a ceremony held in Abuja, Nigeria on Tuesday. Amokachi, driven by his deep connection to the cause, accepted the responsibility to lend his fame and expertise to the Homeless World Cup.
During the signing ceremony, the 50-year-old expressed his enthusiasm, stating: “I am thrilled to become an Ambassador for Nigeria’s Homeless World Cup Team and raise awareness for this tournament. Football possesses the remarkable ability to unite people and foster social inclusion.”
Recognising the significance of events like the Homeless World Cup, Amokachi added: “These tournaments provide a platform for homeless and vulnerable individuals to exhibit their football talents, gain recognition, and experience a transformative empowerment.”
On his part, Kuku, the country representative of the Search and Groom Youth for Development Centre, shared his excitement at the opportunity to work alongside Amokachi, emphasising the value he brings. “We are thrilled to have Daniel Amokachi on board. His football acumen and wealth of experience will be invaluable in raising awareness for the tournament and the cause we champion”, Kuku said.
