October 11, (THEWILL) – Benue State Government has advised Senator Abba Moro and his allies, to step back, reassess their priorities and work collaboratively for the greater good of Benue.

This follows the recent motion moved by Senator Abba Moro, calling for the suspension of Federal allocations to local councils in Benue State, which it said, is not only misguided but also a stark display of political opportunism.

“His mischievous characterisation of the local government elections held in the state, on October 5, 2024, as a “charade” is both unfounded and, once more, an attempt to undermine the democratic process.”

In a statement in Makurdi, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, noted that Senator Moro’s attempt to paint the elections as a sham is rooted in a known personal vendetta rather than a genuine concern for the democratic process, noting that the elections in Benue were conducted under the oversight of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission and were widely recognised as credible and violence free.

“Moro’s rhetoric appears to be a projection of his own past failures, particularly recalling the tragic recruitment exercise he oversaw as Interior Minister, which resulted in chaos and loss of lives. It is ironic that he would draw parallels to such a disaster while casting aspersions on a successful electoral process”, the statement added.

According to the Chief Press Secretary, the support Moro received from his fellow misguided colleagues, including Senators Emmanuel Udende and Titus Zam, only amplifies the lamentable state of political discourse among certain factions of Benue’s political leadership.

“Their collective actions, as usual, seem to serve a singular agenda of discrediting the current people-oriented administration in Benue state led by Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, rather than addressing the needs and concerns of their constituents. That crooked outing on the floor of the Hallowed Chambers once more projected their known pattern of treachery.”

It added that Abuja senators’ consistent malicious attempts to ridicule Rev. Fr. Alia’s administration are not only treacherous but reveal a deeper agenda to destabilise governance in Benue State, pointing out that the rumours of an Abuja-based conspiracy aimed at inciting a crisis in the state further substantiate the notion that this motion is merely a Plan ‘B’ after their initial strategies failed.

“The video used by Moro to support his claims is nothing more than a poorly orchestrated attempt to discredit the Benue State government. A careful review of the materials presented shows them to be an exaggerated portrayal, likely engineered by those intent on sowing discord and undermining the integrity of the electoral process in the state. This kind of political theatrics does a disservice to the citizens of Benue who seek genuine progress and accountability from their leaders”, it said.

The statement, therefore, called on Moro and his team to reflect on their roles and the trust placed in them and to apologise to their constituents and a commitment to serve rather than sabotage could be their path back to relevance.

Governor Alia, according to the statement, will continue to uphold his social contract with the citizens, and no amount of political shenanigans will undermine the progress being made.
