June 23, (THEWILL) – Benue State governor, Revd Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia, has approved the appointment of Professor Jerome Andohol, as the Acting Director General, Benue State Planning Commission.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, in Makurdi, on Friday, the governor charged the appointee to serve the people of the state diligently, directing him to assume duty with immediate effect.
Before his recent appointment, Andohol had worked at the Benue State House of Assembly, had a stint at the Benue State Planning Commission and presently, an Associate Professor at the Economics Department of the Benue State University, Makurdi.
Meanwhile, governor Alia has inaugurated the Recovery of Government Assets Commitee for State and Local Government Areas with a charge on them to be firm diligent in the course of their assignment.
The governor, while performing the ceremony at Government House, Makurdi, noted with dismay that vehicles used by past Government officials have disappeared into thin air.
“This action is not to witch-hunt anyone but to put records straight and recover Government properties in wrong hands.”
According to governor Alia, he is out to offer true service to Benue State and not about witch-hunting, noting that Benue’s interest is above that of individuals.
He explained that the involvement of security forces in the commitee was to tap from their knowledge, charging members not to betray the confidence repose in them and to submit their findings within two months.
The governor, therefore, advised those that will be invited by the fact-finding committee to give full cooperation as patriotic Benue people and Nigerians.
The two committees are to, among other things, look at sales of lands, vehicles and furnitures without due process.
Responding on behalf of others members, the Chairman of the Committee, who is a retired Permanent Secretary in the Benue State Civil Service, Dr Hinga Biem, pledged unflinching support to governor Alia and Benue State Government.
He pointed out that there are procedures and rules in acquisition and disposal of government properties; promising to be firm and just in the course of discharging their assignment.
A seasoned Legal luminary, Barr Tarlumun Tombuwua, is the Secretary, while Barr Joe Abaagu, Dr Dennis Akura, Ioryue Yajir, among others, are members of the committee.
