April 08, (THEWILL) – Spanish midfielder, Thiago Alcantara, who has been sidelined due to injury at Liverpool, is reportedly part of a five-man shortlist created by Barcelona manager, Xavi Hernandez, to reinforce the midfield this summer.
Thiago is joined on the list by Dani Olmo, Xavi Simons, Arnau Martinez and Sergio Gomez. Xavi, who is looking to improve the team to compete on more fronts in future, is expected to make some big signings this summer after his side will have clinched La Liga this season.
Thiago played with Xavi at Barcelona before joining Bayern Munich in 2013 and could make a return to his former club if negotiations go well. Dani Olmo, an attacking midfielder for RB Leipzig, also has a connection to Barcelona, having come through the club’s Academy before departing in 2014. Meanwhile, Xavi Simons, a highly-rated youngster, also came through Barcelona’s Academy before joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.
If Xavi manages to sign any of these players, it would provide him with much-needed options in midfield and in the final third of the pitch. However, negotiations are still ongoing and nothing is set in stone yet. Nevertheless, Barcelona fans are excited to see who Xavi will bring in this summer to bolster the team’s chances of winning more trophies in the future.
