August 15, (THEWILL) – In their opening LaLiga, title defence match on Sunday, Real Madrid defeated Almeria 2-1 thanks to a fantastic free kick from substitute David Alaba.
At the Power Horse Stadium in Andalusia, Carlo Ancelotti’s team, made a horrible start and fell behind after only 10 minutes thanks to a slick finish from Largie Ramazani, a former Manchester United junior player.
Before Lucas Vazquez, who had an attempt disallowed for offside in the first half, eventually levelled the score for Madrid shortly after the hour, Madrid struggled to find a way past an inspired Fernando Martinez in the Almeria goal.
Alaba came on to replace Ferland Mendy in the 74th minute, and with his first touch from 25 yards out, he curled a beautiful free kick past Fernando to secure the victory.
On Saturday, Madrid will travel to Celta Vigo, while two days later, Almeria goes to Elche for matchday two fixtures.
