July 30, (THEWILL) – Qatar’s Al Sadd celebrated a hard-fought victory, as they defeated Arabian football heavyweights, Al Hilal, 3-2 in a thrilling Group B encounter at the King Salman Club Cup.
The Saudis wasted no time leaving their mark on the pitch, scoring a goal just 10 minutes into the game, catching the Qataris off guard. However, Al Sadd showed their determination, and with a goal by Baghdad Bounedjah in the 40th minute, they managed to level the playing field, thanks to an assist from captain, Hassan Al Haydos.
In the second half, Tarek Salman’s well-timed header put Al Sadd ahead 2-1. Salem Al Dawsari had his moment at the goal and made the most of it by converting a penalty awarded to Al Hilal in the 68th minute, resulting in a tie. As the match approached its conclusion, substitute Gonzalo Plata clinched the game for Al Sadd with a late goal in stoppage time.
With this impressive win, Al Sadd now looks ahead to their next challenge – facing the struggling Libyan footballers, Al Ahly Tripoli, in the King Salman Club Cup tournament.
