Al-Ahly Claim Historic Record-Extending 43rd Egyptian League Title As Pyramids Stumble

July 11, (THEWILL) – Cairo-based football powerhouse, Al-Ahly, have clinched a remarkable 43rd Egyptian League title without even stepping on the pitch.

Their closest contenders, Pyramids, suffered a 2-1 defeat against Ceramica Cleopatra on Monday, dashing their hopes of closing the points gap. Al-Ahly, fresh off their 11th African Champions League victory last month, have now added five titles to their illustrious collection since last October. Head coach Marcel Koller, who has enjoyed his debut season in Egypt, has guided the team to an insurmountable lead, with 75 points from 29 games and only five matches remaining.

Pyramids initially took the lead against Ceramica Cleopatra thanks to a well-executed Karim Hafez free kick. However, their advantage was short-lived, as forward Salah Mohsen, currently on loan from Al-Ahly but expected to return to his parent club for the upcoming season, found the net twice, once near the end of each half.

Al-Ahly’s dominance in both domestic and continental competitions has been on full display under the guidance of former Austria coach, Koller. His tenure began with a triumph in the Egyptian Super Cup last October, followed by securing a record-extending 38th Egypt Cup title in April. Adding to the list of accolades, Al-Ahly claimed yet another Super Cup in May.

To commemorate their latest triumph, Al-Ahly will celebrate their new title in a clash against arch-rivals Zamalek next Thursday. Zamalek has held the title for the past two seasons and will undoubtedly be eager to reclaim their throne. The showdown promises to be a riveting encounter between two formidable teams that have dominated Egyptian football in recent years.
