July 21, (THEWILL) – Nigerian football Club, Sporting Lagos, made history by winning the B17E category of the Gothia Cup in Sweden. The team defeated FC Tokyo 4-0, in the final match held at the Gamla Ullevi stadium, witnessed by approximately 9,000 spectators.

The Nigerian side dominated the game from the start, with Yusuf Abdullahi opening the scoring in the ninth minute. Babatunde Akomolede extended the lead with a spectacular long-range shot before halftime. Lucky John added a third goal in the 55th minute and Sporting Lagos finished off their victory with a fourth goal.

Akomolede, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the final, expressed his joy at the team’s performance. He stated: “The team’s performance was excellent, just perfect. I do not know how to describe the joy I am feeling right now. It is just too much.”

This victory marks a significant milestone for Nigerian football, as Sporting Lagos becomes the first club from the country to win a trophy at the Gothia Cup. The team’s success comes after defeating fellow Nigerian side Beyond Limits earlier in the tournament.
