An eye witness, Joseph Akpa, said the injured ones were rushed to the hospital, alleging that the killer Fulani gunmen that invaded the villages had crossed over from neighbouring Nasarawa state to perpetrate the unprovoked murder without resistance.

“The Fulani terrorists had earlier issued a threat to the Tse Torkula inhabitants, asking them to leave the village or face dire consequences. They came on motorcycles and without any herd of cattle that fateful night”, Akpa explained.

Torkula is the ancestral home of the late Tor Tiv IV, HRM Alfred Akawe Torkula.

“The invaders on arrival, shot sporadically into the air and scared residents before breaking into the houses of their victims, who were already asleep.”

It will be recalled that suspected Fulani militia last Tuesday, allegedly killed over five persons at Ahentse in Nzorov council ward in Guma local government area of Benue State and wounding several others, who are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals.

Governor Samuel Ortom while reacting to the recent attacks, reiterated his call on the federal government to step up security operations along the crises areas of the state.

“The patience of the people, who are now victims and rendered homeless by the murderous activities of the Fulani militia should not be tested any longer. Victims should not be pushed into looking for self-help because this will not be good for the unity of this country.

“I have repeatedly called on the federal government to convoke a national security summit of all ethnic nationalities to find lasting solutions to the increasing wave of terrorism that is gradually tearing up the bond in our nation and this is the time.”

The Chairman of Guma local government, Mr Caleb Aba, while confirming the attack, said some persons were killed in his area and others at Iye in Uvir council ward and 2 others around Yelwata axis.

“One cannot explain the reasons for this renewed killing because there was no provocation at all. The herders just came, attack the people and run back into Nasarawa state.”

The Police has been informed and they arrived the scene; pointing out that the situation is that of fear of what would happen next.

When a call was put across to the Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Police Command, Superintendent of Police, Sewuese Anene, said she was in Oturkpo on official assignment.
