January 03, (THEWILL) – Wilfred Ndidi has been ruled out of Nigeria’s 2024 Africa Cup of Nations squad, due to injury, dealing a significant blow to the Super Eagles.
The 27-year-old Leicester City midfielder was originally named in Nigeria’s 25-man squad but missed the Foxes’ win over Huddersfield Town, on Monday.
Royal Antwerp midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has been called up as Ndidi’s replacement for the tournament hosted by Ivory Coast.
There are also doubts concerning Ndidi’s Leicester teammate Kelechi Iheanacho and whether he will recover from a muscle issue to feature at AFCON. The 27-year-old forward has been absent for Leicester’s last two Championship matches.
Nigeria commenced their AFCON group stage against Equatorial Guinea on January 14. Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau are also in Group A alongside the Super Eagles.
