September 10, (THEWILL) – Nigeria and Rwanda played to a goalless draw in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Amahoro Stadium on Tuesday. The Group D match saw both teams create chances but fail to find the back of the net.
The first half started evenly, with possession shared in the opening 15 minutes. Nigeria began to dominate possession after 20 minutes, pushing Rwanda deeper into their own half. Victor Boniface came closest to scoring before half-time when his shot struck the crossbar.
Rwanda started the second half strongly but struggled to break down Nigeria’s defence. The introduction of Victor Osimhen gave Nigeria renewed confidence. Ademola Lookman forced a save from Rwanda goalkeeper, Fiacre Ntwari, with a half-volley midway through the second half.
Despite late pressure from Nigeria, Rwanda’s defence held firm to secure a point. The result leaves both teams unbeaten in their qualifying campaign so far.
The Super Eagles will be disappointed not to have converted their chances, while Rwanda will be pleased with a hard-fought draw against higher-ranked opposition. Both teams now look ahead to their next qualifiers as they aim to reach the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
