Adeboye Pledges Solidarity With #EndSWAT Protesters

SAN FRANCISCO, October 15, (THEWILL) – General Overseer, The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, has identified with Nigerians presently protesting against police brutality and the abuse of power by the very institution established to protect them

Recall that Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General overseer of RCCG has recently occupied front pages of Nigerian Print and digital media calling for the restructuring of the country and warned of possible danger of failure to do so.

In a statement by the Assistant General Overseer (Administration and Personnel), RCCG, Pastor Johnson Odesola said Pastor Adeboye “shared the concerns and grievances of the youths and the generality of Nigerians.”

While emphasizing the constitutional responsibility of the Police to maintain law and order, the statement called for an immediate end to police brutality in the country. It emphasized the need for the Police to constantly align their strategies with the needs of the people.

The statement welcomed the disbandment of the SARS and the establishment of a new outfit – the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), but warned that it should not become a case of old wine in a new bottle. Adeboye called on the government to not only restructure the Police but to also re-orientate the officers towards modern ways of policing.
