September 07, (THEWILL) – Cameroon began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Namibia at the Roumde Adjia Stadium on Saturday. The Indomitable Lions struggled to find their rhythm in the first half but improved after the break to claim all three points.

The hosts dominated possession throughout the match but created few clear-cut chances in the opening 45 minutes. Namibia’s Peter Shalulile threatened early on, while Carlos Baleba’s long-range effort for Cameroon was well-saved by Edward Maova. The teams went into halftime with the score still level at 0-0.

Cameroon stepped up their performance in the second half, with Jackson Tchatchoua coming close to breaking the deadlock on 58 minutes. The breakthrough finally came in the 65th minute when Vincent Aboubakar pounced on a rebound from Bryan Mbeumo’s shot to give the home side the lead.

The Indomitable Lions had opportunities to extend their advantage, with Aboubakar missing a one-on-one chance late in the game. Namibia nearly equalised in stoppage time through Deon Hotto, but his shot went wide, much to the relief of Cameroon goalkeeper, Andre Onana.

This victory marks a continuation of Marc Brys’ unbeaten start as Cameroon Manager, following a win against Cape Verde and a draw with Angola in the June 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The result puts Cameroon in a strong position at the beginning of their AFCON qualifying campaign.
