August 19, (THEWILL) – A mobile police officer, who was abducted last week, has been found dead in a bush near Bangalala in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The officer was part of a security team fighting bandits terrorising the Kampani community in the Bashar District of the Local Government, which borders Taraba State.
The deceased officer and a soldier were ambushed by bandits on Wednesday, August 14. While the soldier accompanying the officer managed to escape, the policeman was captured.
A resident of Wase town, who confirmed the discovery of the officer’s lifeless body on Sunday to Daily Trust, expressed concerns about the growing insecurity in the region.
When contacted, the Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Alabo Alfred, declined to comment on the development but said, “He is attached to FCS, they have a PRO.”
The incident is the latest in a series of attacks by bandits in the Wase Local Government Area of the state.
On May 21, 2024, bandits reportedly attacked Zurak community, killing over 40 villagers and injuring many, including vigilantes who were supporting security personnel to restore law and order in the area.
