September 01, (THEWILL) – Nigeria faced a challenging day in the Men’s Singles Para-Table Tennis at the 2024 Paralympics, with two of its representatives falling short in the competition.
Olufemi Alabi, competing in the Round of 16 in the Men’s Singles Class 10, was defeated by China’s Hao Lian. Lian secured a comprehensive 3-0 victory, winning the sets 11-6, 11-6, and 11-7.
Alabi, who had been hopeful of advancing further in the competition, found himself outmatched by the Chinese player. The straight-sets loss marked a disappointing end to his campaign in the Men’s Singles Class 10 event.
In another setback for Nigeria, Victor Farinloye also suffered defeat in his match in the Men’s Singles Class 8. Farinloye was up against Croatia’s Borna Zohil, who proved to be a tough opponent. Zohil won the match 3-0, with each set ending 11-7.
Farinloye’s loss mirrored the result of his compatriot, with Nigeria ending the day without a win in both categories. The defeat marked a challenging moment for the country’s Para-Table Tennis team, which had hoped to make a stronger impact at the games.
