BEVERLY HILLS, May 14, (THEWILL) – The storied career of celebrated veteran Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently took another twist after Jan Olof Andersson, coach of Sweden’s senior men’s national team, confirmed that the well-travelled forward was going to be unavailable for Sweden at the Euro 2020 competition.

This came after diagnostics of the knee injury sustained by the Milan striker revealed that it will keep Ibrahimovic sidelined for a longer time than initially believed.

A specialist consultant had pegged the forward’s recovery at not more than three weeks of treatment, but a statement from AC Milan’s medical department noted that although surgery would not be necessary, the conservative treatment would last for six weeks, effectively ruling Ibrahimovic out of contention for Euro 2020.

Providing an update on the striker’s part in the national team based on this information, the Swedish coach said: “I spoke to Zlatan Ibrahimovic today, who unfortunately told me his injury will prevent his participation in the European Championship this summer.

“Of course it is sad, especially for Zlatan, but for us too. I hope that he is back on the pitch again as soon as possible.”

THEWILL recalls that the ageless striker had a remarkable season in Serie A, inspiring the Rossoneri into title contenders for most part of the early season and was in the running for highest goal-scorer of the season too.

His 15 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions kept the Milan club competitive through the domestic and Europa fixtures and, in all, he accumulated 28 goals in 48 games since last season when he returned to Italy.
