October 22, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been drawn in Group B of next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will also be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

The country’s senior women’s national football team will slug it out against teams from Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland in the group stages of the most prestigious female football competition in the world.

At the FIFA World Cup stage, it will not be Nigeria’s first encounter against the North Americans from Canada just as they have previously faced up against Australia’s women’s national team.

Canada has been unsuccessful against Nigeria at the two World Cup meetings between both countries with a 3-3 tie in 1995 and a 1-0 loss in 2011. However, at a single match against Australia, Nigeria lost 2-0 during the 2015 FIFA World Cup hosted in Canada.

This will be the debut World Cup appearance for the Girls in Green as Ireland is going to their first tournament and Nigeria, as a result, there has never been a head-to-head between Ireland and Nigeria at this level but the Falcons are one of seven teams to have competed in every FIFA Women’s World Cup since it began in 1991 with their best showing being a quarterfinal appearance in 1999.
