July 30, (THEWILL) – Timo Werner, Chelsea’s German forward, has had discussions with RB Leipzig, after being given permission to look for a new team by the London club.

Since moving to Chelsea, Werner has struggled to regain the form he showed while playing for Leipzig, scoring just 23 goals in 89 appearances so far and he had not been pleased with his lack of playing time in public. Werner is searching for a new club to get regular game time and does not think he will get it at Chelsea with the World Cup coming up later this year.

Werner’s agents have declared him available to a number of clubs across Europe, including Leipzig, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Newcastle, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Atletico Madrid, and Chelsea are willing to let him go after already spending £47.5 million on Raheem Sterling.

However, Leipzig, his former employers, are currently competing with other parties for his services. The 26-year-old, who is eager to get back to the team where he scored 28 goals in just 34 games during the 2019/2020 campaign, has spoken with Leipzig.

Chelsea is willing to loan Werner out, just like they did with Romelu Lukaku, but they have cautioned the German that doing so will need him to accept a considerable salary cut, which he is willing to do. An option to buy outright would presumably be a part of any loan agreement, but discussions on this provision are still underway.
