“Thus, there is a marginal decrease of 3.79% in performance in this regard when compared with the last diet of the private candidates series.

“Seven Thousand Three Hundred and Thirty-Four (7,334) candidates. This represents a 4.85% decline when compared with the 2021 entry figure.

“Amongst the candidates that sat the examination, One Hundred and Twenty-One (121) candidates with varying degrees of Special Needs, were registered for the examination. Out of this number, four (4) were visually challenged, four (4) had impaired hearing; two (2) were Albinos, and one (1) was physically challenged. All these candidates with special needs were adequately provided for in the administration of the examination.

“Of the total number of Seven Thousand One Hundred and Sixty-Six (7,166) candidates that sat the examination, Three Thousand Four Hundred and Ninety-Six (3,496) were male, while Three Thousand Six Hundred and Seventy (3,670) were female, representing 48.79% and 51.21%, respectively.

“Out of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, Six Thousand Nine Hundred and Forty-Nine (6,949) candidates, representing 96.97% have their results fully processed and released, while Two Hundred and Seventeen (217) candidates, representing 3.03% have a few of their subjects still being processed, due to some errors on the part of the candidates. “The analysis of the statistics of the performance of candidates shows that out of the Seven Thousand One Hundred and Sixty-Six (7,166) candidates that sat the examination:

“This analysis, however, cannot be compared with that of the WASSCE for School Candidates. Whereas the candidate in the WASSCE for School Candidates Examination is compelled to sit eight or nine subjects, the candidate in the WASSCE for Private Candidates Examination, though can register for eight or nine subjects, is not compelled to take all.

“He/she is free to sit, even one subject, depending on the deficiency he/she wants to remedy. For him/her, therefore, the examination is only a remedial one – a remedy for an existing deficiency. From the above, it will not be true or fair to say that the performance in this examination has dwindled.

“The results of Three Hundred and Forty-Seven (347) candidates, representing 4.84% of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.

“The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council for determination in due course. The Committee’s decisions will be communicated directly to the affected candidates thereafter.

“Candidates who sat the examination should visit www.waecdirect.org to check their results. Candidates will also be required to apply for their certificates online, through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal (e-Certman) website: https://certrequest.waec.ng/.

“The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria would like to appreciate the Federal Government, Staff, Supervisors, Invigilators, Custodians, Examiners, and other Ad-hoc personnel for their contributions towards the successful conduct of the examination and marking of scripts of the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2022-First Series in Nigeria. It is noteworthy that the results are being released barely 30 days after the end of the examination, 15 days earlier than the promised period of 45days.”
