May 21, (THEWILL) – Flying Eagles coach, Ladan Bosso, is confident and optimistic as his team prepares to kick off their 2023 FIFA Under-20 World Cup campaign against the Dominican Republic, at the Estadio Mendoza on Sunday.

With a challenging Group D that includes football powerhouses Brazil and Italy, as well as the debutant, Dominican Republic, Nigeria faces a formidable task in what has been dubbed the ‘Group of Death’.

The Nigerian team has received a boost with the arrival of AC Milan prodigy, Victor Eletu, who joined the squad on Friday, after fulfilling his club commitments. Coach Bosso now has a full squad of 21 players to choose from as they aim for a strong start in the tournament.

Expressing his intentions for the opening match, Bosso emphasised the importance of a convincing victory against Dominican Republic. In an interview with NFF TV, he stated: “We’ve concluded our final training session before our first match here in Argentina. The team spirit is soaring, and with the presence of Nigerian Federation staff members, our morale is high. We are injury-free and determined to secure a convincing three points tomorrow, which will send a strong message to our future opponents.”

The highly anticipated Nigeria versus Dominican Republic clash will be officiated by Japanese referee, Yusuke Araki, supported by his compatriots Jun Mihara and Takumi Takagi. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 pm local time.
