L-R: PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN, HIS WIFE, DAME PATIENCE & PDP NATIONAL CHAIRMAN, ALHAJI BAMANGA TUKUR AT THE PDP SPECIAL NATIONAL CONVENTION IN ABUJA. AUGUST 31, 2013
SAN FRANCISCO, August 31, (THEWILL) – The chairman of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) , Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, on Saturday, charged the party to do more to promote development and prosperity in the country.
Speaking at the Special National Convention of the party in Abuja,Tukur said PDP remains conscious of the enormous responsibility and support of Nigerians, hence the need “that we run a party that is worth its name.”
Listing the challenges facing the country, he said based on the sectors upon which the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan is anchored, the country under the party has recorded many developmental activities .
While hailing the leadership qualities of President Jonathan, Tukur dismissed the opposition political parties as an ensemble of people without “solid ideas or organisational base of the PDP,” saying the opposition merely resorts to gang-ups and allegations which, according to him, show that they lack ideas and are removed from the genuine aspiration of the people.
He therefore pledged to move the PDP up in the years ahead and win more elections while calling on all party members to shun divisions, reconcile their differences, allow internal democracy to thrive by giving strong backing to the leadership of the party.
Tukur however noted that party discipline is an integral part of its life as he urged members of the ruling party to “wake up and shake up by avoiding complacency,” pledging that the party has renewed its determination to revive the nation.
