BEVERLY HILLS, May 28, (THEWILL) – Former world number one golf player Tiger Woods has set a target for his recovery as he revealed that his number one goal is to be able to walk unaided. In February, Woods sustained severe injuries in a single auto-accident when his Sports Utility Vehicle went off-road and needed emergency surgery.

A series of operations saved him from the compound fractures he suffered to his right leg which required that doctors inserted a metal rod into the tibia of the leg along with screws and pins in his foot and ankle.

In mid-March, the 45-year-old was released from the Los Angeles hospital and went to his South Florida home to continue his recovery. Since then, he has retreated from the public eye to follow a rehabilitation programme tailored for his needs.

Although no comment is available about Woods’ intentions in attempting a playing comeback to active and professional golfing, the 15-time major champion has his own priority for the time being as he put it to Golf Digest:

“My physical therapy has been keeping me busy. I do my routines every day and am focused on my No. 1 goal right now: walking on my own, taking it one step at a time.”

Recently, Woods congratulated his arch-rival Phil Mickelson after the American won the PGA Championship at the weekend, unreservedly praising the 50-year-old for his achievement, as Mickelson became the oldest winner of the competition in its history.

It showed that as he continues his recovery, he has kept tabs on the game. Also, a number of his fellow professionals have checked up on him especially in the weeks following his accident and have honoured him with touching displays of solidarity.

Woods acknowledged all these with affection: “It’s been incredible. I have had so much support from people both inside and outside of golf which means so much to me and has helped tremendously.”
