They’re Used To It Here – Conte Expresses Scathing Remarks About Spurs’ Mentality

March 18, (THEWILL) – Antonio Conte has made scathing remarks about the mentality of his Tottenham Hotspur team and the club after their 3-3 draw against Southampton in the English Premier League on Saturday.

Although they were 3-1 ahead in the second half, Spurs conceded two late goals including a last-minute penalty to drop two very crucial points from a winnable tie. In an explosive post-match interview, Conte criticised his players for being “selfish” and not working together as a team.

He also suggested that the club is “used to” underachieving under the current owner. “They’re used to it here. Don’t play for something important. They don’t want to play under pressure. They don’t want to play under stress,” he said.

The Italian coach stressed the importance of taking responsibility and improving, warning that they risk finishing outside Europe qualification if they do not. “We all have to take responsibility, not only the club for the transfer market, for the coach,” he said.

“If we start to think that the players take responsibility, it’s the right moment if you want to improve. Otherwise, I think for the rest of the season, we risk finishing outside Europe [qualification].”
