As recommendation to solving the current national challenges bedeveling the nation, Gen Abdulsalami on Saturday, said that the country needs younger people to take over the leadership from 2023.

According to Abdulsalami, Nigeria of 2023 and beyond would not need leaders with a walking stick but the younger generation to give the leadership a new lease of life.

He emphasized that Nigeria with a population of over 200 million certainly is a great country and the leadership will go a long way to make it a greater place for humanity.

Abdulsalami spoke on Saturday when he received the entourage of a presidential hopeful and founder of KAFTAN TV, Barr Adewole Adebayo.

Adebayo who is running for the 2023 presidential election under a third force, was in Minna, Niger state, with former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung; former Chairman of Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC), Chief Peter Ameh and other supporters.

In a seemingly endorsement, Gen. Abdulsalami said, “Thank you Adebayo for finding me fit to come and tell me of your ambition. Indeed Nigeria needs the younger generation to take over from us the older generation.

“I am so happy not only you, other young people are showing interest in taking over the leadership of the nation. Like you rightly said the world is going digital and I believe the younger generation are more exposed internationally in ICT more than the older generation.

“I am happy that you are thinking of moving the country forward and I believe with your ideologies and your youthful and vibrant ambition I think Nigeria is on the right part and wish Nigeria will be great.

“Nigeria with a population of over 200 million certainly is a great country and the leadership will go a long way to make it a greater place. Thank you for finding me fit to come and visit me to tell me of you ambition.

“You can count on our support always trying to do the right thing. He thanked Dalung for bringing his friend to visit him.”

In his remarks, the former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, hailed the former Head of State for deploying his energy towards making peace around the country.

Describing Gen. Abdulsalami as father of modern democracy, Dalung said, “We have come because as an elder who have served this country, and still serving, who has invested and is still investing in the unity and stability of this great country of ours.”

Reacting to the acceptance of the former head of state, Adebayo said on meeting Abdulsalami, he is now more prepared to lead the country.

Adebayo who said his campaign team is grateful to Abdulsalami’s love for the country and it’s people, added that they discussed issues of national importance that will help him as president.

“We are grateful to you for many seasons. Handing over power in 1999 will always remind us how selfless you are. You were an officer and gentleman. You have always been a good citizen. You have an opportunity to be anything, but you choose to remain in the country.

“If we have a problem, we come to you. It is not because we want to overwork you. But you always give us that frame of reference and solve our problems” Adebayo said of Abdulsalami.

On the 2023 general elections, Adebayo said the younger people must takeover the affairs of the country.

“The country needs to be safe now,” Adebayo said adding that even though the country is not where it supposed to be, insisted that the foundation Abdulsalami laid on democracy must not be allowed to go down.

“2023 is a transition year. It is a year that will lead to either we continue of the road that does not augor well for the country, or we follow a new part that will lead to progress and prosperity.

“If we want a new part, we need to take responsibility to ensure that the foundation Abdulsalami build on democracy do not go down.

“We need to ensure there is unity in the country. I rather be an ordinary citizen in a great country than a powerful person in a fail country.

“We will ensure the labour of our hero pass should not just be a song. We need to build a new country.

“The world has become a global village. Abdulsalami brought us to the global community. We need to be global in the digital world. As young men and women, we must taken over the country. Young people should see leadership as service. The baton we want to carry is your baton. No generation coming after you should be weak. Those taking over leadership from your foundation should be strong and put the country to the part of prosperity. That is what we want to achieve,” Adebayo said.

“I, Barr Adewole Adebayo from Ondo state, I am seeking for the office of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I will, in the next one year, if I am president, I will do well in that office and show others that people can do it, especially the young people,” Adebayo said.
