The Delta State Government has described the death of Mr. Sunny Ofili, the Special Adviser on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to the Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, in a deadly auto crash on Saturday, as a very painful loss saying “his cerebral contributions and passion for innovation will be sorely missed at the State Executive Council.”

Ofili was killed alongside the Obi of Isele-Uku, HRH Henry Ezeagwunam near the Asaba end of the Benin-Asaba highway, when the SUV they were travelling in rammed into a stationary truck from the rear and went ablaze leaving their bodies very charred.

A statement Monday signed by Chike Ogeah, Delta Information Commissioner, is reproduced below:

SUNNY OFILI: A VERY PAINFUL LOSS

On behalf of the governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, we regret to announce the sudden and untimely death of Mr. Sunny Ofili in a fatal motor accident along Benin-Asaba Expressway on Saturday, August 9, 2014.

A member of the State Executive Council, he was until his death the Special Adviser to the governor on information and communication technology (ICT) as well as the head of the Directorate of Science and Technology. His death comes at a time that the ICT Park project in Asaba which he initiated has revved into gear with many investors already setting up shop.

The Delta State Government is awaiting the conclusion of investigation by the police into the accident which involved a prominent traditional ruler in the state after which further pronoun cements will be made.

Ofili was an accomplished journalist and ICT expert. He worked in African Guardian magazine, a stable of Guardian Newspapers Limited, was a fellow of the US-based Centre for Foreign Journalists and publisher of The Times of Nigeria journal and was involved in the publication of Delta Herald, a newspaper based in Asaba.

As an accomplished ICT expert, he worked for blue chip companies such as Lockheed Martin, Bechtel and Symantec, an Internet software giant.

Ofili was an amiable, soft spoken gentleman and an avid family man with malice to no one. His cerebral contributions and passion for innovation will be sorely missed at the State Executive Council.

May the Good Lord rest his gentle soul. Amen.

Signed

CHIKE C. OGEAH Esq

Honourable Commissioner for Information.
