October 10, (THEWILL) – The 62,850-seat Tottenham Hotspur stadium, which played host to an NFL game between the New York Giants and Green Bay Packers on Sunday, is currently the subject of substantive discussions between Spurs and Google regarding naming rights.

One of the most valuable firms in the world, Google, has recently forged a number of sports alliances. THEWILL recalls that Google signed a multi-year sponsorship agreement with the McLaren Racing Formula 1 team in March. The tech giant also has commercial deals with the NBA and the MLB in the United States.

The stadium has undeniable value because not only does it host the club’s home games in the EPL and the UEFA Champions League, two of the most popular football competitions in the world, but it also regularly hosts NFL games and might eventually get a permanent franchise. The Challenge Cup Final for rugby league, heavyweight boxing world title fights, and a number of sizable concerts have all taken place in the stadium.

Any agreement with Google would also be advantageous for Tottenham. They already have lucrative long-term agreements with main shirt sponsor AIA, kit supplier Nike, and a sleeve partnership with online car seller Cinch. The club’s average annual turnover is the fifth-best in the EPL as well.

But, signing a naming-rights agreement would increase their revenue at a time when Antonio Conte’s team is still making good strides on the field. For Todd Kline, the club’s first-ever chief commercial officer, a deal would also be massive, as he came to London after assisting the Miami Dolphins to obtain a naming rights agreement for their stadium that is reportedly worth $250 million (£226 million) over 18 years, while working for the NFL team.
