March 20, (THEWILL)- In a rousing address ahead of the women’s football final at the African Games in Accra, Ghana, Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has urged the country’s Under-20 female national team, the Falconets, to seize victory against their Ghanaian counterparts and defend their gold medal.
The Minister visited the team’s camp on Tuesday, emphasising that the Falconets “carry our only hope in football” after the early exit of the Flying Eagles, Nigeria’s men’s U-20 team. Enoh commended the Falconets’ consistent excellence, noting their soaring rankings following their performance at the last Women’s World Cup.
“You have already qualified for the U-20 World Cup in Colombia, winning the gold in the African Games will give you the right momentum to go for glory at the World Cup,” the Minister stated, underscoring the importance of Thursday’s clash for both the team and the nation.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s previous triumph in women’s football at the African Games four years ago in Morocco, Enoh reminded the Falconets of their responsibility to uphold that legacy. Despite the heightened stakes against the host nation, the Minister expressed confidence in the team’s ability to rise to the occasion.
In response, Coach Christopher Danjuma and team captain Oluchi Ohaegbulam pledged their unwavering commitment to making Nigerians proud, affirming their determination to exert maximum effort in pursuit of the gold medal.
