Sergio Aguero Gets COVID-19 Scare Ahead Of Argentina World Cup Qualifiers

BEVERLY HILLS, June 03, (THEWILL) – There has been a scare for Argentine striker Sergio Aguero on Wednesday when he tested positive for coronavirus just days after completing his move to Barcelona on a free transfer from the English Premier League champions Manchester City.

The striker had flown from Manchester to Barcelona to complete his eagerly awaited move to join the Catalan giants on Monday but observed all the strict COVID-19 regulations.

After being unveiled as a Barca player at Camp Nou, Aguero travelled out to join Argentina’s camp with his colleagues ahead of the county’s World Cup qualifiers this week. A mandatory test was required of the player upon arrival in Argentina and he ran a rapid test which returned a positive result for COVID-19.

However, it turned out to be a false result as a second test came back negative soon after to the relief of the player and the team because the first result threatened to keep the 33-year-old out of Argentina’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia and the Copa America later this summer in Brazil.

Leonel del Castillo, father of the striker, confirmed it was just a false alarm removing initial fears that Aguero would have been required to quarantine for the second time this year and for another positive test results for COVID-19.

Clearing the air, del Castillo broke down the process of the PCR test results and how Aguero ended up with a positive one: “He took five tests last week and yesterday’s AFA test was positive but they already did another more complex test and it was negative.

“So yesterday’s was a false positive.”
