September 23, (THEWILL) – Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has beaten his English compatriots Declan Rice and Harry Kane to the title of England’s Player of the Year.

Saka scored 11 goals and provided seven assists for Arsenal in the English Premier League last season, appearing in every game and establishing himself as one of the most exciting English talents available. His accomplishments at the club level have also helped him retain his spot in the England team.

Since last September, the 21-year-old has played nine times, finding the back of the net three times while registering two assists. As a result of his outstanding performances, he has now been honoured as the Player of the Year for the national team with the winger receiving more votes from England fans than Rice and Kane, who were second and third, respectively.

The award was presented to him at a surprise Q&A session with a local young grassroots team which he arrived at assuming it would be a typical press conference with journalists. He becomes the youngest recipient of the award and the first member of the Arsenal team to do so since its inception in 2003.

It comes a few months after he was also named the Player of the Season for the second consecutive campaign at his club.
