March 16, (THEWILL) – Christian Pulisic, the star forward of the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT), has opened up about the team’s coaching situation and the controversy surrounding Gregg Berhalter and the Reyna family.

Pulisic expressed his belief that the team did not need to undergo a complete overhaul with a new head coach, and that the existing core of players was strong enough to build upon. He also criticised the handling of the Berhalter and Reyna family controversy, calling it “extremely childish.”

“Everything that happened with Gregg, first of all, has been handled in an extremely childish manner. I think we’ve seen what’s been going on. I think it’s childish, it’s youth soccer, people complaining about playing time. I don’t want to go too far into that, but I think Gregg has been extremely unfortunate to get into the position he is in now,” Pulisic said.

Despite the controversy, Berhalter has remained a candidate for the vacant US men’s national team job after an independent investigation by the US Soccer Federation found that he and his wife had accurately portrayed a 1992 domestic incident. THEWILL recalls that the USMNT finished second in Group B at the World Cup in Qatar, before being knocked out in the round of 16 after a 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands.

Pulisic emphasised the need to move forward quickly while expressing confidence in the team’s current core of players and urged the team to continue building upon its strengths. Anthony Hudson, the interim coach, previously served as an assistant under Berhalter and recently selected Gio Reyna for upcoming friendlies with Grenada and El Salvador.
