March 03, (THEWILL) – Super Eagles’ head coach, Jose Peseiro, has congratulated the Flying Eagles of Nigeria for securing their place in the Under-20 World Cup after a convincing win over the Ugandan Hippos in the quarterfinals of the ongoing African Cup of Nations tournament.
Peseiro was impressed with the team’s performance, saying, “Congratulations to our Flying Eagles, who have guaranteed a spot in U-20 World Cup in May, as well as being through to the semi-finals of the U-20 AFCON.”
Despite a slow start in the tournament, the Nigerian U-20 squad recovered from their initial loss to Senegal in the group stage and won their subsequent games to reach the semi-finals. Peseiro praised the team for their resilience, saying, “I am very pleased with the tenacity and resilience that the team has shown throughout the tournament.”
In preparation for the Super Eagles’ AFCON qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau, Peseiro has selected four U-20 players to train with the senior team.
“We have some of the finest U-20 talents in Nigeria, and it’s important that we give them the opportunity to train with the senior team. They are the future of Nigerian football, and we want to make sure they are well-prepared for the challenges ahead,” he said.
