Olympian Reserves Bronze Medal For Bishop Oyedepo’s Neck

August 03, (THEWILL) – After making a nation proud with her heroic long jump on Tuesday that won Team Nigeria its first medal at the ongoing Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, Bronze medallist, Ese Brume, said she plans to place the medal around the neck of renowned David Oyedepo, Bishop of the Living Faith Church, upon her return from Tokyo.

As THEWILL reported, the 25-year-old and African long jump record holder leaped a 6.97m jump in the final of the women’s long jump event at the Games to finish third behind Team USA’s Brittany Reece and Germany’s Malaika Mihambo, who won the gold.

Brume immediately dedicated her first ever Olympic medal to the Bishop, while thanking Nigerians for their support throughout the tournament.

She was still buzzing with excitement as she said, “Setting the African record boosted my confidence because then my injury was still fresh, yet I was able to set that record and a Personal Best.”

She was referring to her rewriting of the long jump record on the continent when she set a new African mark in women’s long jump with an astonishing 7.17 metres leap at the Chula Vista Festival in May, as THEWILL reported.

Brume continued: “So, I thought to myself, ‘Yes I could do it.’ And my coach thought the same as well, so we never settled for less. And to those who were here but could not compete, never settle for less.

“God is with you. It is not over until it is over. You may not have competed here today but God has a better future ahead for you. This medal means that God is alive, Jesus is alive. I plan to go to Canaan-Land to wear it on Bishop David Oyedepo.

“It has been a great season even though I got injured in April, but I never settled for less. I never looked at the situation but kept on pushing and my coach kept on pushing and told me, ‘Ese, you can do it.’ Thank God I’m here today.”

As THEWILL reported, her bronze medal placed her in the exclusive set of Nigerian athletes, including sprinter Blessing Okagbare and Glory Alozie, who have won individual medals at both the World’s championships stage and the Olympic Games competitions.
