BEVERLY HILLS, May 20, (THEWILL) – Suspected militants from the Niger Delta have blown up a section of the Escravos gas trunk line near Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West local government area of Delta state.

According to reports, the trunk line, blown in the early hours of Friday is a major gas pipeline facility belongs to phase two of the Escravos-Lagos gas pipeline owned by the Nigerian Gas Company Limited (NGC).

Although, the attack has not been confirmed by the Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta, THEWILL sources in the creeks have confirmed the attack.

“Due to the sensitivity of the pipeline, the attack will reduce gas production in the country,” the source said.

THEWILL recalls that Escravos-Lagos pipeline was also attacked in February, resulting in the shortage of megawatts (Mw) of electricity for power generation.

The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), a new militant group, has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks in the region saying it will cripple the nation’s economy and defeat the military.

The group, last week, gave a two-week ultimatum to all oil companies operating in the region to shut down.
