BEVERLY HILLS, December 26, (THEWILL) – English Premier League club Manchester City have confirmed that two of their squad players have tested positive for the Coronavirus. English defender Kyle Walker and Brazilian attacker Gabriel Jesus were named as the players affected.
Two members of staff were also confirmed to have been positive, and all four of them will proceed into self-isolation for at least ten days.
Effectively, the duo of players are ruled out of the Christmas-tide ties against Newcastle at home, Everton at Goodson Park and most likely the trip to Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge in the new year. Then, the men from the Etihad face city rivals United in the EFL Carabao Cup semi-final in 12 days time on Wednesday, January 6 which they may have recovered enough to feature in.
A City statement on the positive test results said: “Manchester City FC can confirm that Gabriel Jesus, Kyle Walker, and two members of staff have tested positive for COVID-19. All four personnel will now observe a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine.
“Everyone at the Club wishes our colleagues a speedy recovery over the Christmas period ahead of their return to work, training and competition.”
