January 08, (THEWILL) –Â Holders of the FA Cup Leicester thrashed Watford 4-1 at King Power Stadium to book their place in the fourth round of the English Cup competition.
Francisco Sierralta took down Marc Albrighton in the Watford box, allowing Youri Tielemans to score from the penalty spot for the hosts to take the lead.
The Hornets were careless in the first half, and the Foxes scored a superb second to put them up 2-0. Ademola Lookman played in James Maddison, who easily hoisted the ball over Daniel Bachmann after some great build-up play.
However, Joao Pedro held his cool to duplicate Maddison’s shot with an identical finish into the far corner, and the two-goal lead was shortly pegged back to one.
Leicester restored their two-goal cushion when Harvey Barnes broke free and finished courtesy of Lookman’s ball to make it 3-1 in the second half. The offside flag was initially raised, but the goal was awarded after a VAR intervention.
The lights went out at King Power Stadium midway through the second half and it was Watford who seemed to respond better once the game got back going but Dan Gosling smacked the bar as the score remained unchanged.
However, there was to be no comeback because Leicester rounded off the triumph in style with Albrighton clanging in on the rebound.
When the fourth round draw takes place on Sunday, Leicester will learn who their opponents in the following round will be, while Watford’s focus for the rest of the season will be on ensuring Premier League survival.
