April 26, (THEWILL) – Leicester City secured a valuable point in their bid for English Premier League survival after Jamie Vardy’s late equaliser ensured a 1-1 draw against relegation rivals Leeds United as Kelechi Iheanacho had to be substituted after picking up an injury late on.
The home team took the lead in the first half through a well-placed header from Luis Sinisterra, but the Foxes fought back in the second half, applying pressure and creating opportunities. Substitute Vardy eventually found the net in the 80th minute, securing a much-needed point for Leicester.
The game started with controversy when Leicester had a goal disallowed by VAR in the seventh minute. Although there were few clear chances created in the first half, Sinisterra’s goal sparked a reaction from both sides, with both teams displaying plenty of fighting spirit. Unfortunately, Iheanacho was substituted in the 82nd minute after sustaining an injury in the lead-up to the equaliser.
The result means that both teams have work to do in the remaining matches of the season to secure their EPL status. Leeds, occupying the 16th spot in the Premier League table, remain just one point ahead of Leicester. Meanwhile, the Foxes stay one point above the bottom three.
The Foxes will be hoping to continue their recent form and climb further up the table, while Leeds will be looking to bounce back and distance themselves from the relegation zone. For Leeds’ next match, they travel to Bournemouth on Sunday, while Leicester face a tough test against Everton on Monday.
