I’m Not Bothered About Some PDP Members, Kashamu Loyalists Defecting To APC – Adebutu

March 11, (THEWILL) – The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, on Friday, said that he was not bothered about some members of the party and loyalists of Late Senator Buruji Kashamu, defecting to the ruling All Progressive Party (APC) in the State.

He disclosed this shortly after a peaceful reunion with one of the governorship aspirants of the party in the state, Hon. Segun Sowunmi, at his residence in Abeokuta, the state capital, to reconcile their differences within the party.

Adebutu, while speaking at the reunion, said that some bad elements in the party were responsible for the feud between Sowunmi and him, adding that it was instigated to frustrate his chances of winning the 2023 governorship election in the state.

He said those decamping to APC were not loyal to the party and were doing so because they were hungry, noting that he was not bothered about their decisions as it made the party recognise bad eggs and eject them so that the party could move forward.

Some of the chieftains of the PDP, who dumped Adebutu to join Governor Dapo Abiodun and APC include Segun Seriki, Johnson Fatoki, Otunba Femi Osifade, Alhaji Saula Adegunwa, Ralph Olaosebikan and Tola Mebude.

Others are the former Financial Secretary of the PDP in Ogun State, Bola Odumosun; Chairman of the Elders Council, Alhaji T.A. Olatokunbo; Alhaja Fatimo Sonibare, former Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Michael Agbolaade and former House of Assembly member, Akeem Salami.

The PDP governorship candidate, who appealed to Sowunmi’s loyalists to accept the peaceful reunion, urged them not to dump the party for material gains, stressing that the PDP chieftains and others’ defection to APC was a blessing to the party.

He said that their defection would pave way for new members to join the party and work harder for his victory, saying that the defectors were expired members of the party, who contributed nothing to the success of the PDP in the state

Adebutu, however, charged the party’s members loyal to him and Sowunmi as well as the people of the state, to vote for him and other candidates contesting for elective posts under the party in the state, expressing confidence that he was sure of victory and remain the candidate to beat at the poll.

He said, “We are not bothered at all because the truth of the matter is that we would rather have people exit than be a source of bother to us that continues to drag us back with no contribution to the party. Let them go so that we can enjoy the inflow of new members, fresh fit, young bodies to the job necessary. We are in the up spring and I can assure you we shall win.

“Give all your loyalty from Segun Sowunmi to Adebutu, Dapo is buying people but I believe he can’t buy you people. Don’t let us fight again. And I thank Segun Sowunmi, we will defeat Abiodun. Make sure you stand by your vote and make sure your votes are updated. This is the time to stand up unless we have no state any more,” he added.
