May 25, (THEWILL) – Swedish veteran, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, underwent surgery on his left knee on Wednesday, to correct an ACL problem, according to his club AC Milan.

Ibrahimovic is expected to recover in seven to eight months. His contract with the club expires this summer, and he is unsure whether he will continue to play.

The announcement comes just three days after Milan won the Serie A title for the first time since 2010-11. Ibrahimovic is credited with helping to make that happen. In 23 Serie A appearances, he scored eight goals and added two assists, and his 0.71 goals per 90 minutes was the highest in the squad.

Ibrahimovic’s age generated clear worries even before he needed knee surgery. He conceded nearing retirement in early May, just before he suffered the injury, saying: “I’m in a situation now where I’m close to the goal line … so I’m a little bit panicking.

“What do you do if it suddenly stops? I know I can accomplish a lot of things, and I am sure I will get offers from all over. But the exhilaration I get on the field is unlike anything else I have ever experienced.”
