Ibadan-Born Retired Army General Abdullahi Muraina Dies In Dubai

September 03, (THEWILL) – Former Chief of Accounts and Budget, Nigerian Army Headquarters, Major-General Abdullahi Iyanda Muraina, has died, aged 64.

Family sources said the Ibadan-born military officer died on Friday, at a private hospital in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Acting Registrar, Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Jude Iheanacho, confirmed the sad incident.

Untill his death, Muraina, who owns popular Mauve 21 lounge in Ibadan, was the 23rd President and Chairman of Council of Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered),

The honorary life member of the prestigious Ibadan Recreation Club and Aare Ajagundola of Iseyinland, attended the Islamic Mission School, Odoye, Ibadan, for his primary education before proceeding to the Nigerian Military School, Zaria, for his secondary education between 1972 and 1976.

He was at the Polytechnic Ibadan for his Advanced Level course between 1976 and 1978. University of Lagos for Bsc and Later University of Ilorin for Master degree program.

Muraina held several positions, staff and instructional appointments. These include the Nigerian Army training and Assistance Group in The Gambia and served as Head of the Gambian National Army Finance and Records; a role he performed creditably in the quest for repositioning that country’s Army’s Finance.

Amongst other honour he held include, General Service Medal of Honour, Command Medal of Honour and Field Command Medal of Honour.

While in the service of the Nigerian Army, Muraina was decorated with Forces Service Star (FSS), Meritorious Service Star (MSS) Distinguished Service Star (DSS) and Grand Service Star (GSS).

Acting Registrar, Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Jude Iheanacho, in a statement, said “Muraina, who joined the Institute in 2003 as Member and elevated to the prestigious and highest professional membership grade of Fellow in 2011, served the Institute in various capacities at different times..

He was elected to the Institute’s Council in 2014 and became the Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Institute between 2015 and 2017.

“Due to his consistent support of the Institute’s programmes over the years, he was conferred with the Institute’s Presidential Award in 2014.

“He became the National Treasurer in 2017, and Deputy President in 2020, before being elected the 23rd President and Chairman of Council in 2021.

“Apart from being a Fellow of the Institute, Major General Muraina was a fellow, Certified National Accountants and Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria; member, Institute of Directors Nigeria and the National Institute being an alumnus of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru.

“His pedigree as a thoroughbred, seasoned and tested professional manager and a military officer was never in doubt as he distinguished himself creditably in every assignment he was saddled with”, he added

He is survived by his two wives Peju and Ann and 9 Children.
