May 17, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid’s recent victory over Getafe helped the Spanish giants secure the second spot in La Liga ahead of their semi-final reverse fixture against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.
However, the Getafe win is now in question as their La Liga opponents have lodged a formal complaint against Los Blancos. The complaint is centred around a moment of confusion during the match, which resulted in Marco Asensio remaining on the field, despite supposed substitution plans.
Asensio, who was intended to be substituted for Alvaro Odriozola, was nearly exiting the field when, unfortunately for Real, Eduardo Camavinga suffered an injury, compelling coach Carlo Ancelotti to alter his plans. Consequently, Asensio remained on the pitch, and Camavinga was substituted for Odriozola instead.
Getafe has formally submitted their allegations to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which now eagerly awaits a response from Real Madrid. The focus of the complaint lies in the fact that Asensio did not fully leave the field, while Odriozola did enter, effectively resulting in Asensio being considered the substituted player. The RFEF will evaluate the matter and deliver a verdict.
Ancelotti went with a heavily rotated squad in preparation for the upcoming second-leg clash against City at the Etihad on Wednesday. The game is delicately poised with a 1-1 result from the first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu.
