October 31, (THEWILL) – As a reward for her performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination, the best-graduating student of Emerald Field Secondary School, Calabar, Miss Unimwoshi Grace Ogbeche, has received a cash prize of N500,000 and a brand new laptop from the Joe Okoh Odey Foundation.

The young graduate, who got 6 Alphas in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), also scored 326 in the Joint University Matriculation Examinations.

Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Foundation, Comrade Joe Okoh Odey, stated that the initiative is an avenue to encourage academic performance among young ones in an age where most young people claim “school is scam”.

He explained that a diligent background check was carried out to confirm that the result was achieved through individual effort before granting her the award.

Father of the awardee, Architect Phil Ogbeche, thanked the foundation for finding her worthy and for honouring her.

Also speaking, the school administrator, Bridget Amgbah, lauded the foundation for the initiative, stressing that the award and textbooks donated to the school’s library would assist the students to come out with flying colours.

“Miss Grace Unimwoshi Ogbeche, who I understand is currently at Nile University, has shown herself as a model young person. The kind we can rely on for the future progress of our state and our country,” she said.

The foundation had before the examinations promised to honour any student who graduated with flying colours as well as a donation to the school.

As part of its promise, the foundation donated textbooks and several learning and teaching aides worth millions of naira to the library of Emerald Field Schools, Calabar for grooming Grace Ogbeche to win the award.
