Flamingos Lose 3-1 To Fenerbahce In Final Preparation Game For U-17 World Cup

October 5, (THEWILL) – The final friendly match of Nigeria’s U-17 women’s squad before the start of the 2022 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India saw Fenerbahce Ladies defeat the Flamingos 3-1.

This comes after a test match three days ago in Kocaeli, where the Flamingos defeated Galatasaray Ladies by a similar scoreline. Fenerbahce, however, were the superior side against the coach Bankole Olowookere-led ladies. Two goals from Busan Seker gave Fener, who started Nigerian superstar Patricia George in their lineup, a two-nil advantage by the 80th minute.

In stoppage time, Etim Edidiong reduced the deficit with a goal but in the 93rd minute, Nina Kpaho ended any hopes of a comeback by scoring Fenerbahce’s third goal of the game.

Winning the FIFA U-17 World Cup, scheduled to begin on October 11, will now be the only focus of the Nigeria team who were drawn in Group B, where they are grouped alongside Germany, Chile, and New Zealand.

On October 11, their first game will take place at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium against European powerhouse Germany.
