September 23, (THEWILL) – The English Football Association has charged Cristiano Ronaldo after he appeared to smash a fan’s phone on the ground in April, after a terrible game against Everton.

At the conclusion of Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park, the incident happened as Ronaldo was leaving the field. Social media users posted a video and claimed that the United player had broken the device and, as a result, Ronaldo later offered an apology.

The Portuguese superstar said: “I would like to apologise for my outburst. We always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game.”

The FA released a statement on Friday afternoon, claiming that “it is alleged that the forward’s conduct after the final whistle was improper and/or violent.” The FA claims that Ronaldo violated “Rule E3” and was given a warning by the police for the incident in August.

The rule he contravened read: “A participant shall at all times act in the best interests of the game and shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings the game into disrepute or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour.”
